Description: Zotob.A is a Mytob clone that spreads using a vulnerability in Windows Plug and Play service (MS05-039).

The worm is a packed PE executable file 22528 bytes long.

Installation to system

When run, the worm copies under %SYSTEM% directory using the name 'botzor.exe' and creates a named mutex 'B-O-T-Z-O-R' for making sure that only one copy of the worm is run at the same time.

"Hurricane Katrina" spam message downloads trojans

We've received some reports from people who have received a spam message with subject fields like "Katrina killed as many as 80 people".

The message seems to contain a news article on the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina.

Creative has reported it has accidentally shipped almost 4000 MP3 players with a Windows virus. This happened in Japan with the 5GB Zen Neeons players that have been shipping for two months now.

Decription: W32/Lebreat.A@mm is a mass-mailer and a network worm. It was found on July 15th, 2005. Shortly after the initial version, there appeared 2 more variants. The worm also has a backdoor, a trojan downloader and DoS (Denial of Service) attack capabilities.

The worm is a PE executable file about 15 kilobytes long, packed with MEW file compressor and patched with PE_Patch.

Windows Firewall flaw may hide open ports

A flaw in Windows Firewall may prevent users from seeing all the open network ports on a Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 computer.

The flaw manifests itself in the way the security application handles some entries in the Windows Registry, Microsoft said in a security advisory published Wednesday. The Windows registry stores PC settings and is a core part of the operating system.

July 1, 2005 - Banks admit 800,000 cases of customer data losses

A wave of customer data losses has been sweeping across Japan, with more than 800,000 such cases being detected at major banking groups and regional banks, companies and financial institutions said Thursday.

Among the cases at banks, which checked the security of personal data at the instruction of the Financial Services Agency, Resona Holdings Inc. said its four subsidiary banks have lost data on about 287,000 customers.
